What Is COP31?

COP31 is the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It's the world's biggest yearly meeting on climate action. Governments, civil society, businesses, researchers and young people come together to negotiate and discuss how the world responds to climate change.

The Government of Türkiye hosts COP31 in 2026, in the coastal city of Antalya. Thousands of delegates are expected from almost every country. Global organisations will also be there, including Verra, which runs some of the world's leading carbon market standards.

Important Dates

  • Conference dates: 9–20 November 2026
  • Venue: Antalya Expo Center, Antalya, Türkiye

Who Attends COP31?

  • Party delegates: official government delegations from UNFCCC member countries
  • Observers: accredited NGOs, universities, research centres, youth groups and Indigenous peoples' organisations
  • Media: accredited journalists
  • Businesses and experts: organisations working on climate finance, carbon markets, clean energy and sustainability

How Can You Take Part?

There's no open registration for the official conference. The Blue Zone is UN-run and needs accreditation. Here are the main ways to get involved:

  1. Join your country's delegation: contact your national climate or environment ministry about joining the official party delegation.
  2. Go through an observer organisation: if your NGO, university or youth network is admitted as a UNFCCC observer, it can nominate members for badges.
  3. Join a youth network: YOUNGO, the official youth constituency of the UNFCCC, helps young people engage with COP.
  4. Attend side events and pavilions: many organisations host public events around the conference.
  5. Follow online: many sessions are livestreamed on the UNFCCC website.

Opportunity with Verra

Verra will take part in COP31, with its staff joining panels and discussions throughout the conference. If you are organising an event at COP31 and want a carbon market expert for a panel or roundtable, or would like to meet the Verra team, you can email events@verra.org.

Why COP31 Matters

  • Countries will discuss new climate commitments and climate finance.
  • Carbon markets and nature-based solutions will be key topics.
  • It's a chance for young people and civil society to bring their voices to global decisions.
  • It's a strong networking platform for anyone building a career in climate and sustainability.

Simple Tips

  • Start early: accreditation and visa processes take time.
  • Ask organisations in your network whether they hold UNFCCC observer status.
  • Prepare a short profile of your climate work before you contact delegations or organisations.
  • Follow the official COP31 website and the UNFCCC website for updates on side events.
  • If you can't travel, take part online and share key moments on social media.
