What is the FAWE Conference?

The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) is a pan-African organization working to advance girls' and women's education across the continent. Every three years, it hosts an international conference that brings together the people who shape, fund, research, and experience girls' education.

The 4th edition takes place in Nairobi, Kenya, on 17–18 November 2026, under the theme:

"Investing in Her Future: Accelerating gender-transformative education for African girls through sustainable financing and innovation."

Conference objectives

  • Mobilize political, financial, and institutional commitments for gender-transformative education
  • Elevate youth voices and leadership in education financing and governance
  • Promote innovation, technology, and partnerships to help girls access, stay in, and complete school
  • Strengthen policy coherence, institutional capacity, and accountability

Four sub-themes

1. Sustainable Financing for Gender-Transformative Education Government budget commitments, innovative and blended financing, and tracking how money translates into results for girls.

2. Youth Voices and Leadership in Education Financing and Policy Youth participation in planning and budgets, leadership development and mentorship, and youth-led advocacy and accountability.

3. Harnessing Technology and Digital Innovation for Girls' Education Financing inclusive EdTech, closing the gender digital divide, STEM opportunities, and using data to improve learning.

4. Gender-Transformative Partnerships, Financing and Accountability Multi-sector partnerships, private sector engagement, policy coherence, and shared accountability for results.

Not included: travel, accommodation, visa costs, and airport transfers. FAWE does not arrange airport pick-ups.

Travel tips for delegates

  • Visa: African delegates should check visa-free entry rules. Non-African delegates should apply through Kenya's official eTA platform.
  • Airport: fly into JKIA. The venue is nearby, on Mombasa Road.
  • Getting around: use airport taxis, Uber, Bolt, Little Cab, or hotel transfers.
  • Money: Kenya uses the Kenyan Shilling. Cards and mobile money are widely accepted.
  • Health: travel with insurance, any personal medication, and emergency contacts.
  • Accommodation: book early.
