What is the PPIA Junior Summer Institute?

The Junior Summer Institute (JSI) is a fully funded summer program run by the Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) Program. It helps college juniors prepare for graduate school and careers in public service.

Fellows spend the summer at one of three top universities, taking graduate-level classes and getting mentoring and career guidance. They also join a lifelong community of people who care about public service.

Free virtual application seminars:

  • October 6, 2026 (6:00–7:00 PM Eastern): JSI Fellows share their summer experience
  • October 19, 2026 (4:00–5:00 PM Eastern): Tips on preparing your application, from the institute directors

Host universities

  • Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government: economic policy, public policy, and government
  • Princeton University, School of Public and International Affairs: international economics, foreign policy, and diplomacy
  • University of Michigan, Ford School of Public Policy: public policy, economic policy, and education policy

Who can apply?

  • College students graduating in December 2027 or between May and August 2028.
  • Students interested in public policy, international affairs, and public service careers.
