Apply for the 2027 Amy P. Goldman Fellowship in Pre-Raphaelite Studies. It's a one-month research residency in Delaware, USA, with a $3,000 stipend and up to $3,000 for housing. Apply by 16 November 2026.
What Is the Amy P. Goldman Fellowship?
The Amy P. Goldman Fellowship is a one-month research fellowship awarded once a year. The Delaware Art Museum and the University of Delaware Library offer it together, and the Amy P. Goldman Foundation funds it.
It supports scholars researching the Pre-Raphaelites and their friends, associates and followers. Projects on wider Victorian art and literature, or on related cultural and social history, are also considered.
The selection committee especially welcomes projects that bring new information or a fresh interpretation. Possible topics include:
- lesser-known figures
- women writers and artists
- print culture
- illustration
- iconography
- artists' catalogues
- specific objects
- transatlantic links between Britain and the United States
The fellow works with these collections:
- the Delaware Art Museum
- the Helen Farr Sloan Library and Archives
- the University of Delaware Library
- the Mark Samuels Lasner Collection, one of the leading collections of Victorian literature and art

Who Can Apply
- PhD students working toward their doctorate
- Scholars who already hold a PhD
- Independent scholars and museum professionals with equivalent academic or professional experience
- Researchers whose work will lead to a scholarly output, such as a dissertation, book or peer-reviewed article
The page doesn't set a nationality restriction, so international scholars appear to be welcome. If you're unsure, email the committee to confirm.
Please note that creative projects aren't supported. If the result of your work will be art, poetry or literature, this fellowship isn't the right fit.
What You Get
- A $3,000 stipend
- Up to $3,000 reimbursed for local accommodation
- A month of access to the Delaware Art Museum and the University of Delaware's library, museums and special collections
- The chance to present your research in a public talk
The award doesn't mention travel costs, such as international flights. Plan for those yourself.
How to Apply
- Go to the official fellowship page on the Delaware Art Museum website.
- Download the Application Form (PDF).
- Follow the instructions in the form and prepare everything it asks for.
- Submit your application by 16 November 2026.
- Send any questions to fellowships@delart.org. The contact is Sophie Lynford of the Pre-Raphaelite Fellowship Committee.
Simple Tips
- Name the collections you'll use. Projects that make good use of both the museum's and the university's holdings stand out, so point to specific items or archives.
- Show what's new. The committee values new information or interpretation, so make clear what your project adds to Pre-Raphaelite or Victorian studies.
- Plan your residency. You'll need to live in Wilmington or Newark for the month. A car is recommended but not essential.
- Prepare your talk early. Fellows give a talk on their research during their stay or within six months of it, so think about how you'd present your findings.
- Budget for travel. The stipend and housing allowance help a lot, but flights and visa costs are likely to be your own.
