Global EbA Fund 2026: Up to USD 7.5 Million in Grants for Nature-Based Climate Adaptation

The Global EbA Fund is offering up to USD 7.5 million in grants for ecosystem-based adaptation projects: small grants of up to $250,000 and medium grants of up to $500,000. NGOs, universities and community groups can apply. See the deadlines and how to apply.

What Is the Global EbA Fund?

The Global EbA Fund supports projects that use healthy ecosystems to help people adapt to climate change, also known as nature-based solutions. It's backed by IUCN, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the German government's International Climate Initiative (IKI).

So far, the Fund has supported 75 projects in 41 countries across nine types of ecosystems. The new grants were announced at Finance Day during UNCCD COP17 in Mongolia.

Two Types of Grants

1. Small-size grants

  • Up to USD 250,000 per project
  • Projects of up to 24 months
  • Focus: helping EbA approaches scale up through stronger institutions, better data and evidence, knowledge sharing and investment-ready solutions

2. Medium-size grants (the Fund's first ever)

  • Up to USD 500,000 per project
  • Projects of up to 24 months
  • Three focus areas:
    • Innovative finance for EbA, including investable business models
    • EbA in fragile and conflict-affected areas, with community-led approaches
    • Linking climate, biodiversity and land action across the three UN Rio Conventions

Important Dates

  • Small-size grants: Submissions from 28 September to 26 October 2026
  • Medium-size grants: Submissions from 12 October to 16 November 2026

Informative webinars will be held to help applicants prepare.

Who Can Apply?

  • National and international NGOs
  • Community-based organizations
  • Indigenous Peoples' organizations
  • Universities and research institutions
  • Private sector organizations

Small-size grants are open to projects in ODA-eligible countries, with priority for:

  • Small Island Developing States (SIDS)
  • Least Developed Countries (LDCs)
  • Countries that have received little support from the Fund so far

What You Get

  • Funding of up to USD 250,000 or USD 500,000
  • Support to scale up your nature-based adaptation work
  • Connection to a global network of EbA practitioners
  • Visibility through a respected international fund backed by IUCN, UNEP and Germany's IKI

How to Apply

  1. Visit the Global EbA Fund website and choose the small-size or medium-size call.
  2. Read the call guidelines carefully.
  3. Join an information webinar if you can.
  4. Prepare your proposal around one of the focus areas.
  5. Submit within the call window, by 26 October 2026 for small grants or 16 November 2026 for medium grants.

Simple Tips

  • Show how your project can scale. The Fund wants solutions that grow beyond one site.
  • Use clear evidence and data to show impact.
  • Highlight community involvement, especially Indigenous Peoples and local groups.
  • Choose the right size of grant for your organization's capacity.
  • Mention whether your country is a SIDS or LDC. These get priority for small grants.
  • Apply early. The small-grant deadline is coming up soon.
