What is the Hamburg Sustainability Conference?
The Hamburg Sustainability Conference (HSC) is an international conference in Hamburg, Germany, that brings together leaders from government, business, international organizations, civil society, and academia to speed up progress on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A key focus of the HSC is mobilizing the private sector and building partnerships between business, government, and civil society to tackle sustainability challenges. The conference gathers more than 1,600 leaders, including heads of state and government.
What is the Youth Ambassador Program?
The HSC Youth Ambassador Program brings young community leaders from the Global South into the heart of the conference. Ambassadors help shape and contribute to conference formats, and they start working with the conference, its topics, and each other well before the event.

What do Youth Ambassadors get?
- Fully funded participation: travel and accommodation costs are covered

- Conference sessions: take part as a speaker or attendee, depending on your expertise
- Access to decision-makers: connect with 1,600+ leaders, including heads of state and government
- A bigger network: meet key leaders, press, and local youth in Hamburg
- A global peer community: exchange ideas with fellow Youth Ambassadors before, during, and after the conference
Who can apply?
The program is looking for young community leaders with a proven record of delivering real solutions to sustainability challenges and mobilizing others, whether through their own initiatives or existing networks.
You must:
- Be 18 to 30 years old
- Come from and live in a Global South country, based on the OECD DAC List of ODA Recipients. Eligible countries include Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, Indonesia, Brazil, the Philippines, and many more. If your country appears in the "Country of Residence" dropdown on the form, you're eligible.
- Be actively leading sustainability efforts in your community
- Communicate confidently in English
- Have time to take an active part in the program, including preparation before the conference
- Be available to travel December 7–11, 2026 for the Youth Roundtable Series
You don't need previous international conference experience. Applicants with all levels of experience are encouraged to apply.

On the form, you'll choose 2–3 themes that best reflect your work:

Application questions
Prepare answers to these questions before you start:
- Your sustainability work: What projects or initiatives have you worked on? What impact have you made, who is your audience, and what challenges have you faced? What are your plans for the future?
- HSC 2026 session: Which session at HSC 2026 would you most have liked to join, and why?
- Private sector collaboration: Give an example from your country where the private sector worked with government or civil society on a sustainability challenge.
- Past experience: Have you joined other international sustainability conferences or youth programs? (This isn't required.)

How to apply

- Make sure you're available December 7–11, 2026, and May 31–June 1, 2027.

- Draft your answers in a separate document first.
- Complete and submit the online application form before October 19, 2026.

- Show concrete results. Share numbers and outcomes, like people reached, projects launched, or communities supported.
- Do your homework on the HSC. Look at the HSC 2026 program before answering the session question.
- Think private sector. Pick a strong, specific example of business working with government or civil society in your country.
- Polish your LinkedIn. It's a required part of the application, so make sure it reflects your sustainability work.
- Share links to your work. Posts, articles, videos, and websites help the team see your impact.
