UNIDO Job in Kenya: Independent National Expert for CAIP Site Selection
If you're a Kenyan agribusiness or agro-industrial expert who knows how county governments work, this short UN consultancy is a great fit. The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is looking for an **Independent National Expert** to help choose the first pilot site for Kenya's County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIPs).
What Is This Opportunity?
The Government of Kenya is building County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIPs) in all 47 counties. These parks help farmers and agribusinesses add value to their produce close to home.
UNIDO is supporting this through its project "Supporting the Development of Agro-Industrial Parks in Kenya." The project is funded by China's Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund, with the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences as technical partner. Its first big step is choosing one pilot CAIP.
As the Independent National Expert, you'll join a national team with the UNIDO National Project Coordinator and a technical officer from Kenya's Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry (MITI). Together you'll visit candidate parks, score them and recommend the best pilot site, plus a runner-up.
Important Dates
- Application deadline: 16 October 2026, 11:59 PM (Vienna time)
- Contract length: 17 working days
- Duty station: Nairobi, Kenya, with field visits to candidate CAIPs
What You'll Do

- Preparation (2 days, Nairobi): Review the 10-criteria site selection framework, finalize the data collection tools and agree the visit schedule.
- Site visits (9 days, in the field): Interview county officials, park managers and local businesses, review documents and score each site.
- Report drafting (4 days, Nairobi): Analyze findings from the three sites, build the scoring matrix and recommend a pilot site and a runner-up.
- Finalization (2 days, Nairobi): Add feedback from UNIDO and MITI and help finalize the ranked report.
