
France Excellence Eiffel Scholarship 2027: Study Your Master's or PhD in France
If you've dreamed of studying in France, the Eiffel Scholarship is one of the most respected ways to get there. Funded by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and run by Campus France, it helps top French universities attract talented international students for master's and PhD programmes.
What Is the Eiffel Scholarship?
The France Excellence Eiffel Scholarship supports outstanding international students who want to study in France. Its aim is to train the future leaders of the public and private sectors around the world.
It's available at two levels:
- Master's: master's degrees and engineering degrees
- PhD: doctoral studies, usually as a joint supervision (cotutelle) or co-supervision with a partner university abroad
Fields of study:
- Sciences and technology: biology and health, ecological transition, mathematics and digital, engineering sciences
- Humanities and social sciences: history, French language and civilization, law and political science, economics and management
Important Dates
- Deadline for French institutions to submit applications: 6 January 2027
- Results: Week of 12 April 2027
- Studies begin: From September 2027
Remember that each French university sets its own internal deadline, usually much earlier than 6 January, so contact them as soon as possible.
Who Can Apply?
- International students applying for a master's or PhD programme in France
- Campus France encourages applicants up to 29 years old for master's and up to 35 for PhDs
- Master's applicants must be applying for the first time
- You can't hold another French government scholarship at the same time
- You must be selected and put forward by a French higher education institution
Important: You cannot apply directly to Campus France. Applications sent by students themselves or by foreign universities are rejected. Your French university must submit it for you.
What You Get
Monthly allowance:
- Master's: €1,200 per month
- PhD: €2,100 per month
Plus:
- Return international travel
- Some travel within France
- Health insurance
- Help finding housing
- Cultural activities
Duration:
- Up to 12 months for a Master 2
- Up to 24 months for a Master 1
- Up to 36 months for an engineering degree
- 12 to 36 months for a PhD, depending on your award
Not covered: tuition fees. Many French public universities charge modest fees, but check with your chosen institution.
How to Apply
- Choose your programme. Pick a master's or PhD programme in France that fits your goals and one of the eligible fields.
- Contact the university's international relations office. Ask if they nominate students for the Eiffel Scholarship and what their internal deadline is.
- Apply for admission to the programme following the university's process.
- Get nominated. If the university selects you, it will submit your Eiffel application online to Campus France before 6 January 2027.
- Wait for results. Winners are notified in the week of 12 April 2027.

- Start now. University deadlines come well before January.
- Pick a programme that matches the priority fields. It strengthens your case.
- Show leadership potential. The scholarship is designed for future decision-makers, so highlight your achievements, responsibilities and impact.
- Write a clear study plan. Explain why France, why this programme and how it fits your career.
- For PhDs, line up a cotutelle early. Talk to supervisors in both your home country and France.
- Keep your academic records strong and well documented, since excellence is the main selection criterion.
