World Bank Government Analytics Fellowship 2027 for Public Servants
If you work in government and believe data can make public institutions work better, this fellowship is for you. The World Bank Government Analytics Fellowship 2027 helps civil servants turn government data into practical insights and real reforms in their own organizations.
What Is the Government Analytics Fellowship?
The fellowship is run by the World Bank's Development Economics Vice-Presidency (DEC) and Governance Global Practice, with expert support from the University of Oxford.
It's built around the World Bank's Government Analytics Handbook, a practical guide to using data on things like civil service management, budgets, procurement and service delivery. Fellows design and carry out a Government Analytics project that tackles a real challenge in their own institution.
Fellowship Tracks
The 2027 fellowship has three ways to take part:
- Online-only track: Self-paced and fully virtual, open to a wider group of public servants
- Immersive in-person track: A small cohort joins an intensive six-month programme, including two weeks in Washington, D.C. with World Bank staff, academics and experts
- Regional hub track: More localized fellowships organized around regional hubs
A select group of fellows also gets one-on-one mentoring from a World Bank expert. 30 fellows will be selected for the in-person cohort.
Important Dates
- Applications: Open now
- Deadline: Not listed on the official page yet
Last year's fellowship closed in late September, so don't wait. Check the official page or email the team to confirm the 2027 deadline.
Who Can Apply?
The fellowship is for dedicated public servants. Based on the previous edition, strong candidates are likely to:
- Work in a central government organization or agency
- Be a mid-level manager or senior analyst (or equivalent) able to lead an analytics project
- Have some tertiary-level study in statistics or quantitative methods
- Be proficient in English
- Have support from their organization (organizations could nominate up to two fellows last year)
- Be able to travel to Washington, D.C. (for the in-person track)
What You Get
- Training in using government data for better decisions and policy
- Expert support from the World Bank and the University of Oxford
- Hands-on help designing and carrying out your own analytics project
- Membership in a global network of government officials, data experts and academics
- For in-person fellows from ODA-eligible countries: hotel, travel and daily expenses covered for the Washington, D.C. course
How to Apply
- Read the Government Analytics Handbook and think about a data challenge in your institution.
- Speak to your manager. Institutional support is important, especially for the in-person track.
- Fill in the online application form on the World Bank's application portal.
- Choose your preferred track and describe the project you'd like to work on.
- Submit as soon as you can.
Simple Tips
- Pick a real, specific problem. For example: "We can't track how long procurement takes" is stronger than "improving efficiency."
- Show you have access to data, or a clear plan to get it.
- Get your manager on board early. A letter of support makes a big difference.
- Highlight your quantitative skills, even basic ones like Excel analysis or statistics courses.
- Explain the impact. Describe how your project could change decisions or services in your institution.
